EOTSC20151210 (th) CB Library - Friday Foreign Film

The “Friday Foreign Film” series at Coos Bay Public Library continues at
7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11th.  This month’s feature is “Fill the
Void” - the 2012 Israeli submission for the Best Foreign Language Film
Oscar.

A nuanced portrait of an Orthodox Hasidic family living in Tel Aviv.
Eighteen-year-old Shira is thrilled that the marriage arranged for her
within her Orthodox Jewish community is with a boy she likes.  Happiness
quickly turns to grief when Shira’s older sister dies in childbirth,
leaving behind an anguished family, heartbroken community, and a newborn
baby with a single father. When Rivka, mother of the two sisters, learns
that her son-in-law, Yochay, plans to move to
Belgium to remarry, she is
so distraught at the thought of losing contact with her grandchild that
she proposes a radical plan: that Yochay marry Shira instead. Torn
between her heart’s desire and religious and family obligation, Shira
must decide her future.

The “Friday Foreign Film” series, sponsored by the Friends of Coos Bay
Public Library, is normally held on the second Friday of the month and
is free to the public.  Many of these films are not rated and parental
discretion is advised. For more information call
