The
Coos Bay Downtown Association (CBDA) is kicking off the new year with a
“celebration of downtown” and annual meeting Thursday, January 21st
at the Coos Art Museum. The event will give an annual
report that includes an inventory of activities that have benefitted the
downtown area and its members. The
“Celebrate Downtown” event begins at 5:30 pm and takes place at the Coos Art Museum located at 235 Anderson in downtown Coos Bay.
The
CBDA brings events and education opportunities to its members and the community. Some of the largest events include the
Wednesday Farmers’ Market (May-October), Christmas Tree Lighting, “Trick and
Trunk or Treating” and the Blackberry Arts Festival. Shop Small Saturday, Holiday Open Houses and
the CBDA website encourage support of downtown businesses. And, as a member of the Oregon Mainstreet
Program, the CBDA and its members are eligible for additional benefits.
Other
activities of the CBDA include identifying available space for businesses that
are moving into the area as well as businesses hoping to expand or
relocate. The organization also works to
beautify the downtown area with flower baskets and seasonal banners that line
the downtown streets throughout the year.
Partnerships
between the Coos Bay Downtown Association and others including our members, the
City of Coos Bay, Chamber of Commerce, Egyptian Theatre,
Coos Art Museum and the Coos Bay Boat Building Center help accomplish many
events and create opportunities. These partnerships, events, and opportunities
help support the organizations Vision Statement to advocate for and support
local businesses to thrive by being a vibrant downtown that promotes healthy
living and provides opportunities for our community and guests to shop, eat,
mingle and explore.
The
community is invited to the annual meeting to learn more about the
accomplishments of the CBDA, hear from board members, learn about the benefits
of being a member or renew memberships. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be
available. The annual meeting will be held
on January 21, 2016 at the Coos Art Museum. The doors open at 5:30pm. For more information visit the website or phone
(541)266-9706.
