The Celebration of Gene Melton’s Life has been scheduled for
October 3rd at the Egyptian Theatre. The service will begin at 2:00 pm. Gene was a lifelong resident of Coos
Bay. Gene’s love of Coos
Bay was evident through his many
years of public service. In the 1970’s, Gene served as an Eastside City
Councilor, Chief of the Eastside Fire Station, and sixteen years as a reserve
police officer for Eastside. Gene also served as a Coos Bay City Councilor from
1992-1994 and 2008-2014. As a City Council member, Gene served as a Council
representative on the Boys and Girls Club, Coos Bay Library Board, Egyptian
Theatre Preservation - Urban Renewal Agency, South Coast Development
Corporation, and countless Council committees.
