Volunteers Sought for Railroad Group

The Oregon Coast Historical Railway is looking for volunteers to help out at their popular museum and display area in Coos Bay. No prior railroad experience is needed, just a desire to greet the many enthusiastic visitors who visit this year round attraction. The group also has a number of restoration projects under way, with a particular need for volunteers with carpentry or woodworking skills.

Hours are flexible but one thing is constant – just about everyone loves a train, so this is a fun place to visit and spend some time. If you can help, call Dick Jamsgard at (541)297-6130.

Free Tour at Oregon Coast Historical Railway

Open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am-3pm. Admission is free. Display includes steam and diesel engines, two vintage cabooses and other equipment that can be boarded. Ring the bells! The museum features photos, equipment and artifacts of railroading and logging industries, as well as a toy train layout for youngsters.

South Coast Head Start Is Accepting Applications For The 2018-19 Program Year

South Coast Head Start is accepting applications for our waitlist for there FREE preschool and Early Head Start program for qualifying families! Openings may occur weekly and the wait list is used to fill any spots that come available. We offer a fun, researched-based curriculum; free and healthy meals; and child development, nutrition, and health screenings with follow-up support for all enrolled children. Fit Fridays - South Slough Reserve

Want to add a little variety to your usual exercise routine? Join us the 1st Friday of each month at the South Slough Reserve for our new Fit Friday Hike program. South Coast Business Employment Corporation at the Langlois Library.

A representative from South Coast Business Employment Corporation (SCBEC)/WORKSOURCE Oregon will be available the third Tuesday of every month at the Langlois Library.  Job Seekers and business representatives are encouraged to stop by to discuss available services. Classroom training and On-the-Job Training programs are available for eligible individuals. SCBEC currently provides Certified Nurses Assistance training at the Coos Bay Corporate Headquarters.  Appointments may be made by calling Mo Aakre at 541 751-8506.

SNAP Recipients Eligible For Free Career Services Through Southwestern

Coos Bay, OR – SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Recipients are eligible for free Career Coaching services from Southwestern Oregon Community College through a new program called STEP (SNAP Training & Education Program).

Drop-in Computer Lab - February 28th, 2018.

Coos Bay Public Library will be offering FREE Drop-in Computer Labs for users with general questions about computers and devices. The next lab will be held  Wednesday February 28 from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Coos Bay Library’s Cedar Room.
Labs are for computer owners who have general computing questions. These labs are open to questions regarding apple devices, windows devices, mobile devices, and eBook questions. Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring their own laptops or mobile devices, but a couple additional laptops will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no formal lecture, but we will be here to answer your questions!

Free Traditional Dance Class Offered in North Bend!

The South Coast Folk Society welcomes public participation in its new free traditional dance class for beginners. This class meets every Monday for two hours starting at 7:00PM. The North Bend Housing Authority has provided their spacious meeting room for this free weekly class. They are located at 1700 Monroe Street in North Bend. Singles, couples and families will enjoy this light-hearted social gathering. Drop-ins are always welcome at every class.
This is a beginner’s level class. No previous dance experience is required. All ages and abilities can have fun dancing to live music provided by area musicians. The emphasis will be on traditional dances from America and around the world. These include squares and circles, line dances and set dances, folk and ballroom dances. Many of the dances will be accompanied by live music, and musicians are invited to join in. All dances will be taught, and no partner is needed. Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary Needs Volunteers!

If you're looking for a fun, rewarding volunteer opportunity, Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary is the place for you! Auxiliary members assist hospital personnel throughout the hospital by transporting patients in wheelchairs, delivering flowers, assisting in the gift shop and much, much more. By volunteering only for only one four-hour shift a week, you will be helping your community and the hospital doing a valuable service.

Volunteer to Help Families - South Coast Family Harbor Needs Your Help!

South Coast Family Harbor needs your help! We are in need of volunteers for our program. If you like to work with children we have a place for you.  We can also use help with answering phones, fund raising and washing donations and sorting them.  
We also need Board Members. If you can’t volunteer maybe you can help with a donation to the baby closet. We are in need of diapers and pull ups size 4 -6  and wipes.  We take gently used items so if you are looking for a place to donate your items we would love to have them.
