Doodad shanty boys to perform at Coos Art Museum’s Maritime Dinner


Coos Bay – The Doodad Shanty Boys are scheduled to perform as part of  Coos Art Museum’s Maritime Dinner beginning at 5pm, July 9. Ric Morrisonn, founder and main storyteller of the musical group will bring his crew to enliven the Museum’s Annual fundraising event with songs and stories of the sea.

 The Maritime Dinner event features the popular silent art auction, beer and wine sales, and enjoyable camaraderie. Delicious food offerings will be catered by The Coach House Restaurant of Coos Bay. Auction artworks include pieces by participating 23rd Annual Maritime Art Exhibition artists and local artists. A special facet of the auction is the sale of recently completed plein air maritime paintings. Other items include goods and services provided by area businesses.

Tickets for the dinner and auction are $45 for Museum members and $50 for non-members. The tickets are available by calling Coos Art Museum at (541) 267-3901 or by visiting the Museum at 235 Anderson, Coos Bay, credit cards are accepted.

Coos Art Museum has been a cultural focal point of Oregon’s scenic Southern Coast since 1966. It occupies an historic 1936 Art Deco US Federal Building in downtown Coos Bay. The Museum offers a wide range of arts activities including exhibitions, art classes, and lectures. Hours are 10:00am to 4:00pm, Tuesday through Friday and 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday.  Museum admission: $5 general, $2 students, veterans and seniors, free to Museum members. Free to active duty military through the Blue Star Museum Program.

EOTSC20160716 Coquille Garden Tour

The 7th Annual Coquille Garden Tour is scheduled for July 16. Enjoy a day touring beautiful Coquille gardens and a chance to win a colorful hanging flower basket. Children’s activities will be at selected sites. Tickets are $12 per adult and children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased online at www.coquillegardentour.com or in person at the following Coquille locations: Coquille Garden, Cedar Point Florist, Copper Goose Nursery, Farr’s True Value, Bully Garden Supply, Coquille Chamber of Commerce. In Coos Bay, Sunset Gardens. In Bandon Highway 101 Plants and Things.
Proceeds benefit the Coquille Garden Club, an Operation Coquille project, for city beautification. EOTSC20160716 The Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers Association

The Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers Association, District 5, will be making music July 16th, Saturday, at the Winchester Bay Community Center in Winchester Bay.   Music starts at 1pm and ends at 4pm, often there is an acoustic circle jam.  The event is free and the public is invited.  You  can dance or listen!  The Oldtime Fiddlers is a non-profit organization whose mission is to play, promote, and perpetuate Old Time music.    For more information, please call  541 347 4561.
