REMEMBRANCE CEREMONIES & THE EMPTY CHAIR

As we head into the holiday season we look forward to a variety of family, faith, and community activities. Often, each of us has a role in these cherished traditions. But when a loved one passes, they leave a hole.  A chair at the table is empty.

Empty chairs change holiday traditions and the reality of loved ones gone before us becomes very evident. Many desire to find ways to continue to include these family members and friends this time of year.

For those who wish to honor the memory of a loved one, South Coast Hospice is holding “Winter Remembrance” ceremonies in Coos Bay, Bandon and Reedsport this December. It’s an opportunity to share in the remembrance and celebration of the lives of those who were so very important to us. There will be beautiful harp music, refreshments and the lighting of candles. South Coast Hospice Chaplain, John Sheese, will be guiding the ceremonies and those who wish to share their loved ones names and/or stories will be welcomed. Attendees can bring a 4” x 6” or smaller photo that will be displayed prominently. Everyone is invited to attend these free events.

Bandon’s event will take place on Monday, December 7th, at the Barn Community Center in City Park.

More information regarding “Holidays and Grief” and Grief Support Groups in Bandon, Coos Bay, Coquille and Reedsport can be found on the South Coast Hospice website, www.schospice.org,  at the SCH Community Bereavement & Education Center, or call 541-269-2986.

EOTSC20151204 COOS ART MUSEUM - Memories of Egypt

A FINE COLLABORATION WITH THE COOS ART MUSEUM... TUT IS COMING TO TOWN! Just in time for the Egyptian Theatre's 90th birthday celebration in November, the Coos Art Museum will be exhibiting the Oregon debut of the textile arts of Nancy Arthur Hoskins. The show is called "Memories of Egypt", and it will open October 9 th running through December 5th . Nancy is a former college weaving instructor living in Eugene. She is an internationally recognized author, teacher, and artist who has studied ancient Egyptian fabrics in more than 50 museums around the world including the original tunic of Tutankhamen in Egypt. She has replicated pieces from these studies which we will be seeing at her showing. Nancy previously exhibited and spoke at Vanderbilt and Yale Universities, and she is currently lecturing and teaching in London and Devon, England. Nancy was kind enough to allow the Theatre to use a photo of her recreation of Tut's tunic band on one of the ETPA’s Grand ReOpening invitations. We look forward to having Nancy's work exhibited at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay. Be sure to mark your calendars for this event and for the Egyptian Theatre's
